Today is our last day in Hong Kong. We woke up early, packed our bags, and head out. We had some time in the morning so we decided to check out the Hong Kong Museum of History.
Since the museum is located in Kowloon, we had a transfer at the IFC Mall. We had a quick breakfast at Pret A Manger at the mall before continuing with our trip.
The Hong Kong Museum of History was established in 1975 and is open every day of the week. The entrance fee for adults is HKD10.
The gallery tour starts with a display of prehistoric exhibitions, to early Chinese civilisation, medieval era, and the colonial period.
I was most interested to see the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) museum. Did you know that the HSBC bank prints the notes for the Hong Kong Dollar, from 1860s until now?
There was a replica of the old Hong Kong city from 1800s, including the transportation used, an old tram, and even details on the opium trade that was widespread in the era.
From the museum, we took a cab back to the nearest MTR station and head back to our apartment.
After we collected our luggage, we head to Hong Kong Station. We took the Airport Express to the airport (the same train we took when we arrived).
Hong Kong International Airport is located on Lantau Island, the same island we visited on day 5. Turns out the airport was seriously massive! We almost missed our flight as we underestimated the walking time needed from the check-in gate to the departure hall. The line at customs was so long and I was really nervous. I had to make public plea to tell the 10 people in front of me to allow us to skip the line as we’ll be missing our flight. We were that desperate! Haha! Quite an experience for me!
Hong Kong is the second Asian tiger that I have visited (after Singapore). I am tremendously glad to being able to visit it for 6 days and to experience the many wonders of the pearl of the orient. I will definitely return to explore the many other parts of this wonderful city.
