A few months ago the family was planning for our annual holiday, and my sister suggested we go to Shanghai. Many of us haven’t been to Shanghai, and the weather was looking good, so we were all very excited for the trip.
For posterity, I will state the logistics of the trip. I took 2 separate flights due to the flight time that I wanted.
Outgoing flight: The outgoing flight was Malaysia Airlines, flight MH388, on 24 March 2026, departing at 8:55AM, and the total outgoing flight cost for 4 of us was around RM8,000.
Return flight: The return flight was on Singapore Airlines, flight SQ825, departing on Sunday, 29 March 2026 at 12:35AM. The total return flight cost for 4 of us was around RM7,500.
As for the hotel, we stayed at Marriot Marquis City Centre for 5 nights and a half (5.5 nights due to half day extension) totaling RM7,300.

We left the house at 6AM and arrived in KLIA within 1 hour. We rendezvous with the rest of the family after checking in. Our flight left on time at 8:55AM.
It was a pleasant flight. Most of us slept soundly throughout. We arrived in Shanghai at 2:15PM that day.
After getting our luggage, we headed to the maglev station within the airport. We took the maglev train to Longyang Road Station. We got a CNY10 discount each on the maglev tickets due to us having flight tickets. Moving at 300 kmph, the whole ride took 8 minutes.
At Longyang Road Station, we booked a Didi (Chinese version of Uber) to the hotel. I had set up my Didi and Alipay app before arriving hence it was a smooth booking.
It was roughly a 20 minutes ride from Longyang Road Station to Marriott Marquis. The hotel was conveniently located close to Nanjing Road, the primary shopping area.
We got a double bed twin room on level 33. It had a nice view of the city area.
Our room also came with access to the M Club Lounge on Level 37. It is a more private lounge, with drinks and light meals served throughout the day.
In the evening, we had a walk at Nanjing Road. The pedestrian only street is lined with all sorts of shopping malls.
We went inside Shimao Festival City Mall and explored the shops. There were many shops electronics, cute toys, and various bookstores.
Later, we had dinner at Yer Shari inside Shimao Festival City Mall. It is a halal restaurant serving Xinjiang food. The chinese version of the Halal logo, 清真, pronounced Qing Zhen, was displayed clearly at the front of the restaurant.
