For the year end holiday, we planned a short getaway with my in-laws to Genting. It was my first trip up the mountain.
Given the relatively short distance, we decided to drive up ourselves. I rented a Toyota Innova as there were 6 of us.
Given that hotel check in is later in the day, we drove up straight to Genting Premium Outlet (GPO). It is the same outlet company in Johor. We could immediately feel the cool weather in GPO. Truth be told it almost felt like I was overseas. Haha! There is nowhere else in Malaysia that feels like this.
After shopping for a few hours at GPO, we went to check-in at Swiss Garden Hotel. It’s just a modest mid-tier hotel and given how late we made the booking, it was the only option left.
The hotel booking for 2 rooms was RM2,477 for 2 nights. It was only after I arrived that I realised one room was on the hotel tower, and the other at the serviced residence tower.
We wanted to get rooms at Resorts World Genting, but apparently those require months in-advance of booking.
In the evening, the kids went swimming at the heated pool. With the misty cool weather, it was quite nice.
We didn’t feel like driving out that evening so we had dinner at the cafe at the hotel. It was an al fresco dining with the cool Genting weather. It was a pleasant feeling. Malaysians love cool weather. However, the food quality leaves much to be desired.

The breakfast at the hotel was horrible. After that, we headed to GPO to take the cable car up to SkyAvenue.
We were able to skip the queue for the cable car tickets as we had senior citizens with us. The cable car trip was smooth and the kids loved it.
It was my first time at SkyAvenue Genting. The interior is covered with large screens with loud music. It definitely feels like the Las Vegas of Malaysia .. of sorts. It also has a twilight zone feel to it.
We wanted to take the kids to Skytropolis but it only opens at 2PM. So we decided to have a morning snack at Swensens, which is located right in front of Skytropolis.
I also took the kids to see the other parts of SkyAvenue while we waited for Skytropolis to open. I went to see the entrance to SkyWorlds theme park.
The kids went on as many rides at they could. There were also scarier rides for adults with really long queues.
We also went for archery as it seemed quite fun. The instructor gave Sofia a quick lesson and she was able to try out a bunch of arrows.
In the evening, we headed back down to GPO and had dinner at Tarbush. It was the perfect meal to end our day, especially in the cool weather.

In the morning, we checked out and had breakfast at Dome at GPO.
We did another round of quick shopping before heading back down to KL.
Check out this short video below summarizing our trip.
