During the Merdeka public holiday period, we went on a local holiday to Penang.

We took a flight from Subang Skypark. It was just a 1 hour flight.

The rented Nissan Serena

At Penang Airport, I collected my pre-booked Nissan Serena from Big Thumb Car Rental. The total cost was RM1,756 for our 4 day trip.

Nasi Kandar Kayu

What better way to start our Penang holiday than to have lunch at Nasi Kandar Kayu at Bayan Baru. The meal was excellent.

Noordin Mews

After lunch and after stopping by a few shops, before heading to our accommodation at Noordin Mews. It is a heritage hotel that was restored was from a Peranakan shophouse. It gives a nostalgic feel, something like a colonial-era charm.

Norm Cafe

Teatime at Norm, one of the leading hipster cafes in town.

Fort Cornwallis

Took the kids to Fort Cornwallis. It was my first time there too. The fort was built by the British East India Company in 1786. I was intrigued to see the story behind the Sri Rambai cannon (above photo: bottom left) that was built by the Dutch in 1613.

Cheah Kongsi Temple on Lebuh Armenian

In the evening, we drove by Lebuh Armenian. The place was swarming with tourists. We have been there previously so we just past by quickly.

From Lebuh Armenian, we went to Gurney Paragon Mall. It’s one of the best shopping malls in Penang. We wanted to visit the Straits & Oriental Museum at the mall but unfortunately we arrived late and it was closed.

Dinner at Kapitan

A trip to Penang is considered not complete without a stop at Kapitan. I wasn’t too hungry but I couldn’t let the opportunity past by. From Gurney Paragon Mall, we went for late dinner at Kapitan on Lebuh Chulia. The food was outstanding, as always.
